Earthlings
After watching "Earthlings" the second day, I was nauseous. Since class ends at 12:15, I usually go have lunch with my friends right after. I could not even imagine eating chicken or meat after finishing "Earthlings." One part that stood out to me was the treatment of the chickens. When the workers cut of their beaks that broke my heart. I felt shocked, disappointed, and disgusted that innocent animals are treated that way. It was said that 8.5 million million birds are slaughtered weekly. I wished to saved them when I learned that 60,000-90,000 are in one building. This is an inhumane way to house animals and I am worried that if they don't fix it soon, things will get even worse.
"After listening politely, the boy bent down, picked up another starfish, and threw it back into the surf. Then, smiling at the man, he said... I made a difference for that one."(938)
After watching "Earthlings" I realized there is a lot that needs to be done when it comes to animal treatment. Although, I cannot fix every problem by myself. I hope to make small differences here and there that can make a huge impact. Changing the world can start with one person. It just takes one person to say enough is enough and take action. That could be something like peaceful protesting or getting involved with animal rights. It is said that "What starts here changes the world." Here at UT, we have so many resources that are here to help us be successful. If we use these tools to make a difference we can make a huge impact on the world. We can start by helping bring light to the things we saw in the "Earthlings" documentary. "Never believe that a few caring people can't change the world. For, indeed, that's all who ever have." (Margaret Mead)
It appears that everyone seems to have had some form of a pet over their lives. Having a dog or a cat is the most common pet that most Americans have. Pets are considered apart of the family and even have their own beds in most cases. They have such a huge impact on their owners and they would do anything for them. All of my friends who have dogs miss them sometimes even more than their siblings. They FaceTime them whenever they get a chance and have pictures of them in their rooms. This is just a sweet reminder that some animals are treated with the love and respect they deserve. I pray that eventually all animals will be treated with the kindness that God created them to feel. Just like humans, animals were born with inherent dignity. They were born with a purpose and have the right to live their lives how they truly deserve!!
